2006 Scbbbc Tournament of Champions!
After a very tough
ten month tournament schedule on the Scbbbc circuit the top ten anglers
were all invited to this years Tournament of Champions! These top sticks
were here to fish for over $2000 dollars in prizes and were put up for
free at the Konocti Casino Resort in Lakeport Ca. Also all the anglers
and their family were also treated to a free dinner Saturday night.
This year's format would put the anglers on Highland Springs Reservoir
on Saturday and Clear Lake on Sunday. When it was all over Sunday, Deren
Kozenko had claimed the victory and the 2006 Scbbbc Tournament of Champions!
Day 1 at Highland was a slow day for most but Kozenko (11.23 lbs) was
sitting in second place with a good shot at the trophy. Binh Phi was
the day one leader setting the pace with 12.25 pounds and looked to
have a great day Sunday. Dave Sternitzke was 3rd after day one and Mike
Casey was setting in 4th day one and continued his strong second half
of the season surge! Day 2 at Clear Lake started out looking like a
scene from Pirates of the Caribbean with fog so thick and still very
dark which kind of made for a spooky blast off on the water, but when
the fog had cleared it was Deren Kozenko with just enough to beat out
Bihn Phi for first place! Deren’s winning weight was 28.50 pounds
with Bihn Phi just about a pound of the pace with a finale weight of
27.54 lbs. Coming in third was young gun Michael Nunez with a weight
of 25.96 lbs. Day two’s biggest bag was brought in by Terry Yeh
with his personal best one day weight of 18.75 to give him 4th place
with 24.78. 5th place with 24.07 was last months Spring Lake winner
Dave Sternitzke. 6th place goes to this years Angler of the Year Mike
Ayers with a weight of 23.39 pounds anchored by the tournament over
all big fish of 6.75lbs. 7th place was Mr. Bill Sweatt with a weight
of 22.95. 8th place was Matt Cahill with 20.54 lbs. 9th place goes to
Kevin Nunez with 19.36 lbs. And last but definitely not least was to
me the most improved angler of the year Mike Casey with a weight of
18.97 lbs. Congratulations to all of this years Tournament of Champions!
And big Darren Kozenko with the win. I’d also like to thank our
President Rich Caro for simply an outstanding year for the club. You
have taken us higher then ever before, thank you! And to everyone else
that came to help out and supported the championship like Russ, Scott
B. Mike W. Rhonda, Ramie, Shawn and Matt’s better half thank all
of you. Guys if you thought this year was phenomenal just wait tell
the 2007 season!
