About The Club
The
Sonoma County Belly Boat Bass Club originated in 1983 when the mysterious
"Roland Rich" began posting flyers and organizing jackpot-style
tournaments at Annadel State Park's Lake Ilsanjo. With time, it evolved
into a somewhat well-structured club with monthly events, points standings,
written rules, etc. In 2003, we had 41 members. We fish monthly events
from February through November, along with "The Classic,"
a 2-day event in at Clear Lake, as well as the Tournament of
Champions another 2-day event at Clear Lake.
The club is open
to all anglers of any age and skill level. Many who start with the club
fish their first event armed with only a spinning rod and a rudimentary
knowledge of bass angling. Getting to the winners' circle, however,
is by no means easy. Although we have a reputation as something of a
"poor man's bass club" - most float tubes can still be purchased
for less than $40,000, complete with gel-coat finish and GPS system
- even accomplished anglers may find the competition level to be satisfactory.
Some of our alumni have moved on to bigger venues, including past president
Jimmy Reese of Ukiah, CA, who is now enjoying success at the professional
level and has appeared in Bassmaster Magazine. Since our group often acts as a jump-off
point for many interested in competitive bass fishing, this provides a great learning
opportunity. We freely share information on successful patterns and presentations. Many in our club
now use kickboats/kayaks. In 2005, oars were voted to be allowed on all lakes. Kayaks were voted in 2020.
We use livewells
and do our best to release our fish in good condition. Be sure you've
read and understood the rules before fishing with us. Hope to see you
on the water this season!
